a corsage for a special lady

My sister Therese, who earlier this year launched a magnificent debut collection of poems, Other Animals (VUP: 2013), is on the line-up for the Ladies Litera-Tea next Sunday 25 August. She'll be reading with an amazing array of New Zealand women writers. I believe there are still a few seats available for the event, so if you're interested, you can find out more about it here.

I noticed that Rosemary McLeod is one of the speakers at the Ladies Litera-Tea, so I've made Therese a felt corsage to wear on her jacket, inspired by the flower designs in McLeod's book With Bold Needle & Thread (see top image).

Of course, the corsage doesn't have the same ferocity as the Jane Dodd brooch that features on the cover of Other Animals, which suggests an alternate ending to the classic children's story Goldilocks and the Three Bears - one in which it seems that that Papa, Mama and Baby bear didn't take too kindly to the little girl's intrusion in their home after all!
